Blonde
Smart Highlights Blonde or Smart Colour Total Blonde
- My hair has gone yellow – what should I do?
The product has not been left to develop for long enough. Carry out a strand test and re-apply. If your hair is not in good condition, leave for at least two weeks, and condition it regularly.
- My hair is patchy – what should I do?
The colour may not have been applied evenly, which can result in patchy results. You may want to try re-applying colour to the patchy areas, then combing the product through the lengths of your hair 10 minutes before the end of your development time, to avoid any further unevenness in colour.
It may be advisable to go back to a brown and start again. If you are going to colour the hair brown over a blonde, it is important that you use a brown that has red tones – ie mahogany, auburn or rich brown. Always carry out a strand test first.
- I have applied the blonde, but my head is stinging – what should I do?
If you have a sensitive scalp, stinging can occur with the use any lightening product. This should have been revealed in the skin test unless your scalp has heightened sensitivity. If you experience this sensation, rinse immediately and consult your doctor where necessary. If the scalp blisters, please seek medical advice immediately.
Colour
Smart Highlights – Intense Red, Carmine Pink, Hot Magenta, Passion Plum
- I have used the Intense Red and my hair has gone pink – what should I do?
There
is a possibility that the colour was not left to develop for a long
enough period. It is recommended to re-apply the product once a strand
test has been carried out and you are happy with the result.
- The colour is too bright – how can I tone it down?
The
colour will fade after washing anyway – use a clarifying shampoo and
this will speed up the process. If you wish to colour over, use a brown
colour with red tones, such as rich mahogany or auburn. Always carry
out a strand test first. For blonde hair, the same result can be
achieved using Smart Blonde or Smart Highlights Cool Blonde – this will
remove the unwanted colour.
Smart Colour
- I have used Pure Purple and my hair has gone red – what should I do?
The
hair has been over-developed which means the colour has ‘blown’. Carry
out a strand test and re-apply the colour, leaving it on for no more
than around 15 minutes.
- I have used Real Red and my hair has gone orange – what should I do?
As
above, the hair has been over-developed so the colour has ‘blown’.
Carry out a strand test and re-apply the colour, leaving it on for no
more than around 15 minutes.
Condition
- I love the bright colour but it fades so fast – what can I do?
With
this sort of technology, the colour will fade – use good conditioning
shampoos to help lock the colour in. In addition you can order
refresher packs directly from Smart Beauty, which contain everything
you need to keep your colour vibrant for longer.
Smart Colour
- The colour has faded too fast – what should I do?
Wash with a conditioning shampoo, this will help to lock the colour in.
- I have used your product and my hair is breaking/splitting – what should I do?
If
the hair is breaking, this is normally a sign of over-processing. This
means that too many hair colours have been applied over a period of
time, resulting in the hair weakening and breaking. It is always
advisable that the hair is in good condition with no split ends prior
to colouring, however if you are experiencing breaking/splitting, wet
and condition your hair thoroughly. Leave conditioner on for at least
30 minutes. Rinse and repeat on a daily basis. Thoroughly conditioning
will add moisture back into the hair and will stop further splitting
occurring.
Top tips
- Always wash hair in cool not hot water to close the cuticle and retain colour more effectively.
- Was hair as little as possible to avoid unnecessary colour fade.
- Cover hair up in sunshine or harsh weather conditions.
- Use UV products on your hair for maximum colour protection.

The
reason you hair appears green is that the red pigments have been
removed – try adding a brown colour with red pigmentation such as rich
